However this duration depends on the overall health of the person. Once the body utilizes all the glycogen, it starts getting the needed sugar from the fatty acids that is stored in the body. Red blood cells cannot use fatty acids and even our brain cells cannot get the energy it requires from these fatty acids; these cells would still require glucose for their functioning. After the initial 24 hours red blood cells and the brain cells get their glucose from the fat tissues which stores sugar in the form of glycerol and our muscle tissues too are broken down to supply our brain and the red blood cells with glucose.</p>
